Football Friday Week 7

I have fallen behind on my posting, but will try to do better. We had a team meltdown last week and lost an embarrassing game to the Lexington Minutemen. This week we travel down the road from them and play the Higginsville Huskers. It is going to be a tough team, but if we got our act together, we have a chance to pull it off. Both teams have a record of 3-3, so this will put one into a losing season so far this year.

This week has been a little eventful. Tuesday night we got to meet Colton's girlfriend Lindsey. She was nervous, it didn't go as well as it should. Wednesday night we went bowling with John, Carol and Connie. It was a fun time! I bowled a 110 and 117 which is better than I have done in a long time! Last night was Taco Thursday at Washington Street, preceded by ordering Colton's graduation stuff.

Freddie had an "incident" at Vo-Tech this week and shattered his nose! Ouch! He goes for reconstructive surgery Wednesday at KU Med. These boys are going to be the death of me!

Today in History

Actually right now we are going to talk about yesterday in history! October 1, 1924 James Earl Carter was born in Georgia. He served two terms as a Georgia state Senator, as Georgia's 76th Governor and he later became the 39th President of the United States.

Today I am spending the day at Renfest in Kansas City. I will update you all on how well that went on Monday!

Football Friday Week 6

I have been slacking on my blogging this week, but will try to do better!

Last night we hosted Senior night for the football players. We had 15 hungry boys at our house. It was a nice evening and I think it all went really well. Jasper and the geese were a hit with them! The team is off to Lexington tonight to play the Minutemen and I am ready to head out for the game in a few hours as well. I think we have a chance. Although we lost last week, we have a good team and they have been working hard at it.

Monday Night Football

Colton called me right before noon yesterday to let me know he would be playing on the JV team against Polo that night. So, I rallied the troops and loaded up a fan club to watch him, Colten and Justin play last night. The "stadium" was a muddy mess!

We lost the game 8-6, but our boys fought hard!

Homecoming Update

Well, we lost our game Friday night. They were bigger, badder and lasted longer than we did. The final score was 48-21. It was still a beautiful night for football and the boys played hard. Colton also had quite the fan club show up for him.

Homecoming Friday!

Today is Homecoming. The last one I will enjoy with a child in high school. The parade is this afternoon and then I will be out to help set up the tail gating party the Quarterback Club is sponsoring. The big game tonight is against the West Platte Bluejays who have the same record as we do, 3-1. The Homecoming queen crowned on Wednesday was Jordan Cox and Dalton Preston was crowned King.

Go Bulldogs!!

City or country? Civilization or wilderness? Order or chaos?

It is funny that this prompt came up today. My daughter Destiny and I were just talking about this some yesterday. I definitely pick country. I like where we live, but given a choice I would pick more country than what we have. I would love to have enough room to have all the animals I want and plenty of room for them to roam wherever they want.

Civilization or wilderness? This is a bit trickier. I would almost yell out wilderness without thinking too much about it, but after some thought, I am not sure total wilderness is the thing for me. I think it would be neat to live off the land as much as possible and be far, far away from the ding dongs I seem to attract, but I know I would miss some interaction from civilization. If there is a happy medium, I vote for that.

Order or chaos? This is not a choice for me. Chaos picks me! I can't imagine it any other way!

Stormy Tuesday

As I sit here and wait for the storms to roll in, I reflect on my decision today. I am going to start my weight loss/exercise program in the morning. I have steadily been gaining weight and realize I must do something before it gets completely out of hand. Wish me luck!

Don't forget to vote for Dalton this week!

Another Monday

Good Monday to everyone! I had a pretty good weekend. Our Bulldogs beat the Midgets 46-16 on Friday in what was a really awesome game! Don't forget to vote for Dalton Preston for player of the week this week! Friday is Homecoming with a tough opponent in West Platte.

Mizzou also won Saturday night in a very close game against San Diego State University. It wasn't pretty but it put a "W" in the win column anyway!

Dalton Preston is nominated player of the week St Joe News Gazette. Cast your vote on line. He is an awesome kid and player! Thanks

This Day in History--September 19

On this day in history there are several birthdays including Matthew Perry (1969), Trisha Yearwood (1964), Joan Lunden (1950), Jeremy Irons (1948) and Adam West (1928). This is also a very special day because one of my bestest friends Tanya turns a very youthful 40 today! Happy happy Birthday Tanya!

On this day in 2002 William Rosenberg, founder of Dunkin Donuts died and well as Orville Reddenbacher in 1995. Also on this day, James A. Garfield was shot and killed in 1881. Which brings me to another stop on our Ohio trip.
James A. Garfield only served a short 200 days in office before being shot by Charles Guiteau on July 2nd at a railroad station in Washington D.C. The reason the deranged political seeker gave was that he thought Chester A. Arthur should be president instead. Garfield was the only sitting member of the House of Representatives to have been elected president and his one and only executive order was to give executive government workers the day off on May 30, 1881 in order to decorate the graves of those who died in the Civil War.

BYC Day!

Today I would like to shamelessly plug my favorite website Backyard Chickens. There isn't a better place on the world wide web to learn anything you need to know about chickens, ducks, geese, guineas, turkeys or any other animals you have questions about. It is also full of great recipes, auctions and many great people. I have learned so much from reading the forums and have found my best friendships on there. If you have never visited there before, head on over, you will be impressed on how amazing the website is!

Another Football Friday!

This is football Friday week #4. Our Trenton Bulldogs take on the Putnam County Midgets. This game holds a special place in my heart since the Midgets are also the team rival of my Alma Mater the Milan Wildcats. I have the pleasure to get the chance to see both my favorite teams play them this year and I am hoping to report a 2-0 record against them!

What's one thing you love that nobody else does?

This is a relatively easy question to answer!
Thunder is a one of a kind dog that we adopted just over a year ago. He jumped out of his owner's car next door to the station and we ended up bringing him home with us after the owner made it clear that he didn't want him back. (I have many times figured out why he made this decision) There are many Thunder stories over the past year that would explain why the rest of the family is less than thrilled with him, but he is my buddy and I will take care of him as he lives out the rest of his life on the Shaw Ranch!

September 15th--This day in history

Continuing with the theme from yesterday, I will highlight some more "today in history" for you all. First and most important, today is my Mom's birthday. She was born September 15, 1938.

Here is a picture of her taken a few years ago at my sister's house. We were laughing so hard we were crying! My mom drives me crazy a great deal of the time, but she is also one of my best friends and the best Grandmother a person could ask for! Happy Birthday Mom!

Other notable birthdays on this date are Gaylord Perry (1938) who Mom claims as a twin! Dan Marino (1961), Tommy Lee Jones  and Oliver Stone (1946), Agatha Christie (1890) and William Howard Taft (1857)

Speaking of William Howard Taft, I also got the privilege to visit his boyhood home while on my Ohio trip this summer.

William Howard Taft was the only man in history to serve as President (27th) and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (10th). He also served in many other high positions in the United States and abroad. He was also the first president to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery and the only Chief Justice to have a state funeral.

On this day in history

On September 14, 1901 President William McKinley died of gangrene from results of a gunshot wound he received on September 5th in Buffalo, New York while attending the Pan-American Exposition. He was shot twice by Leon Frank Czolgosz with a gun he had newly purchased for $4.50. His last words before he was electrocuted in October of the same year were  "I killed the President because he was the enemy of the good people – the good working people. I am not sorry for my crime."

This summer I had the privilege to travel to Ohio to see the final resting place of President William McKinley. I must say it was a very impressive place. It took all I had to climb the 108 steps to the top and then rest up for the trip down, but it was worth it.   http://www.mckinleymuseum.org/mckinley_memorial

It is Monday!

Good Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend!

We won our football game Friday night 34-0 and Colton got tons of playing time. Serves him right after wrecking his 4-wheeler right before the game and being sore! It rained some, but we were lucky, most games in the area had to be postponed until Saturday. Right after we got home we were without electricity for 2 hours!

Saturday was fairly quiet. Sunday pretty much the same thing. Got most of my housework done but didn't do so well in the bowling department.

Silly Geese!

These are our spoiled geese! The white one in the front is Nester and the gray one is Chester. We hatched Nester in February 2009 and he has been so much fun to raise! We acquired his buddy Chester last summer from a couple who thought he was a troublemaker with the rest of their flock. We have had no problems with him since he has come to live with us. He is a very laid back bird. Nester is our handful! Some of his favorite things are painted toe nails and flip flops. He has trained us to not step too close to the pen or he will chase us back in a hurry! He has also been known to break up cat fights, scare off a lab and chase the goats until they are shaking scared! What impresses me most about these guys though, is their "watchdog" status. They stand guard by the edge of the pen through rain, snow, heat, whatever and will alert to any danger that is around them. They are beautiful fun birds and I am so glad to have them as part of our family!

Boys of Fall

When I feel that chill, smell that fresh cut grass
I’m back in my helmet, cleats, and shoulder pads
Standing in the huddle, listening to the call
Fans going crazy for the boys of fall

They didn’t let just anybody in that club
It took every ounce of heart and sweat and blood
To get to wear those game-day jerseys down the hall
The kings of the school, man, we’re the boys of fall

Chorus:
Well it’s turn to face the stars and stripes
It’s fighting back them butterflies
It’s call it in the air, alright
Yes sir, we want the ball
And it’s knocking heads and talking trash
It’s slinging mud and dirt and grass
It’s I got your number, I got your back
When your back’s against the wall
You mess with one man, you got us all
The boys of fall

In little towns like mine, that’s all they’ve got
Newspaper clippings fill the coffee shops
The old men will always think they know it all
Young girls will dream about the boys of fall

Chorus:
Well it’s turn to face the stars and stripes
It’s fighting back them butterflies
It’s call it in the air, alright
Yes sir, we want the ball
And it’s knocking heads and talking trash
It’s slinging mud and dirt and grass
It’s I got your number, I got your back
When your back’s against the wall
You mess with one man, you got us all
The boys of fall
(Repeat)
We’re the boys of fall
We’re the boys of fall

Football Friday Week 3

This week we are home again, playing the Lathrop Mules. Between the big win last week and us coming in as favorites this week, I am really pumped for tonight's game. The rain may be moving in, but it doesn't stop dedicated Bulldog fans from filling the stands to root on our boys!

Our Duck Family!

Today I would like to talk about our ducks. Franklin, in front and center, is the ringleader of the clan. He is our only remaining original duck. We brought home him and his mate Gertrude a few years ago from a friend's farm and we have been hooked on ducks from that point on. We hatched a baby for Frank and Gertie less than a year later, Norman and they lived in the front yard as one happy little family. Unfortunately, we lost Gertie and Norman this past spring and it left Frank one lonely ole duck. Sure he had two geese to keep him company, but he needed more. So, enter in the new troops! The tall black one in the back is Lincoln, the white one is Aflac, the black one to the left is Jefferson and Rutherford is brown in the middle. They aren't anything fancy, we just picked them out of the tub at Orscheln's, but they have made Frank a much happier duck and have brought a lot of happiness to our front yard.

Today is my baby's 18th Birthday! Happy Birthday Colton!

Time to catch up!

I have fallen behind on my blogging, so I will take a little time to catch up! Friday night we won our football game 20-14!! I am so proud of our boys for the fantastic job they did. We were the underdogs and pulled it out.

Saturday was pretty quiet. Hubby and I spent a nice romantic evening alone cleaning the garage. Sunday was a Wal-Mart trip and we stopped to see my sister for a little bit. Sunday night despite the wind, we had a bonfire with hot dogs and marshmallows. There was also a tad bit of drinking involved before the night was over! Monday was quiet again with a lot of resting up to come back to work!

It is now Tuesday and still uneventful. I am loving life right now!

Finally Football Friday!

Friday is finally here and we finally got our senior shirts today! Woot! We play Carrolton tonight and they are pretty tough, but are plagued with several illnesses and injuries, so we may have a shot after looking so good last week. Whatever the outcome we will be proud of our boys anyway!

Thursday is here!

Thursday is here. That means taco night at Washington Street! I really look forward to them each and every week! Thursday also means we are only a day away from our football home opener against Carrolton! It is only supposed to get up to 74 tomorrow with a low of 47, so it should be good football weather! Go Bulldogs!

It is also Alumni weekend here in town and I have an event free weekend. Hear that? NOTHING planned and it is wonderful! Now this doesn't mean I will sit around 3 days and do nothing but it opens up so many options, you know, besides watching Food Network and reading trashy novels! But, if that is what I choose to do, I can do it!

I am at a loss of words today, so I guess I will wrap it up and try again tomorrow.

It is Wednesday, Hump Day!

Good Wednesday to everyone!

My day didn't start off quite like I wanted it to, but it has gotten better, not wonderful, but better. I think had I went to bed at a decent time instead of up doing damage control half the night and worrying about it the rest of the night I might have felt better today. But I really don't want to talk about that right now. We got another inch of rain last night/this morning and it looks like more is moving in.

We have a new kitten. Kinda. Bridgette our stray cat who has been living with us for the past 2 years like we are a hotel with room service, but still doesn't trust us enough to actually touch her, gave birth about 5 and a half weeks ago, but was certain we would harm it and hid it the best she could all this time. Well, last night she came out to eat and that little darling followed her! She is adorable! She is fluffy yellow with big blue eyes! (much prettier than her mommy for sure) She put up some protest when Destiny picked her up, but I think she liked the loving she got once she was held. Now our goal is to tame her so she will trust us and be part of the family or so she can go to a good home.

Jasper is growing much faster than I want him too and it is time to think about weaning him and moving him into his big boy house instead of sleeping in Mommy's bedroom. He sure is a lively fellow and gives the girls and the cats a run for their money when he is around. Heads up or you will have horns planted about mid calf! (he has outgrown the ankles) I need to take and post new pics of him since he is losing his baby hair and growing in actual fur.

Enough for now, maybe I will go out and do something exciting so I can blog about it tomorrow!

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

Good Tuesday to you!

Rain, rain, rain this morning, but it finally cleared off and we are paying for it with the sun and humidity. The rain is supposed to come back tonight through Thursday so the ducks and geese will at least be happy!

After posting my list yesterday, Kelly decided to squelch my will to live to some extent and started a blog! Everyone welcome Kelly to the dark side!!
http://crapicantremember.blogspot.com/

Today's prompt is: "What's the difference between men and women?" I don't even want to get started on that rant, but feel free to post your ideas in my comments!

Now for my real rant of the day!
http://www.heartlandconnection.com/news/story.aspx?id=504285
It is all I can do not to get in my truck and drive the hour to kick some booty! And I may still yet! I am so mad about this that I can't even think straight! I don't even begin to imagine what these monsters are thinking and I don't really want to know. I just can't wrap my head around it at all. God Bless Sgt. Maggart and all the soldiers for fighting to give us our right to do and say what we want and God help the Westboro "baptist church". They are some sick sick people!

Tell us about five things you want to do before you die.

Ah, it is so hard to just pick 5 things, but I will give it a try. (in no particular order)
1. Pet a panda
2. Meet my buddies in person from BYC
3. Meet Stephen King
4. Own a real ranch with lots of acreage so I can expand my animal population
5. Get Kelly to start a blog

Aha! I think I learned how to upload pics! Woot!

Monday Morning

Happy Monday to everyone! I had a pretty good weekend.

Friday night we made it to our season opener to South Shelby for high school football. We scored first but ended up losing 27-6 to a much bigger, better team. I was pretty proud of the way our boys performed and saw some good things. Next game is our home opener this Friday against Carrollton. They are going to be pretty tough to beat also!

Saturday I spent the day hanging laundry on the line and Jasper got to take a trip to the petting zoo with big brother Colton. Jimmie, Destiny and I then went to Winston to the I-35 Speedway to take in some dirt track racing. It had been a long time since we had been there and it was great to see people we hadn't seen for a while. Bonus was to see Brad win in the stock class. He is a good friend of hubby's and has had a lot of medical problems and thought he would never race again. It was good to see him out there and doing so well. Hubby seems to think he might catch the bug to climb back in a car again, but I did my best to squelch those dreams!

Sunday was quiet, filled with more laundry, grocery shopping, watching Food Network and then to League bowling. Carol had pre-bowled and Julie didn't feel well so I represented the team by myself. I bowled an 86 and a 113, so not too bad since my average is 95. We watched the season finale of Drop Dead Diva last night. It is going to kill me to wait until next season to find out what happened to Grayson!!

Just testing the mobile thing!

My very first post!

Thanks to Tiffany, I have finally got my blog up and going! Not sure what I am going to talk about  that anyone wants to hear, but here I am!

Tonight is taco night. Meaning, we go to Washington Street Food and Drink every Thursday for $1 tacos. Tomorrow will be the season opener for football. We will make the 2 hour trip to Shelbina to cheer on our Bulldogs!
